Prof. Dr. Engin Dursun was born in Erzurum in 1968. After completing his medical education at Istanbul University’s Istanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1991, Dursun finished his residency in Otolaryngology (ENT) at SB Ankara Training and Research Hospital in 1995. In the early stages of his career, he gained clinical experience by serving as a specialist physician, senior resident, and assistant chief at various training and research hospitals in Ankara.
Dr. Dursun, who prioritized international experience in his academic development, worked as a “Clinical Fellow” at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in the United States from 2002 to 2003. Upon his return to Turkey, he was promoted to Associate Professor in 2005 and to Professor in 2012. Between 2012 and 2021, he held critical administrative roles at the Faculty of Medicine at Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University, including Chair of the Department and Chair of the Department of Surgical Medical Sciences.
Dursun joined the faculty of the Lokman Hekim University School of Medicine in 2021, where he currently serves as Chair of the Department of Otolaryngology. He also serves as the Director of the university’s VITAL Simulation Center, leading efforts to advance simulation applications in medical education. Additionally, he holds active responsibilities on the management and advisory boards of key units such as DUDAMER (Cleft Palate Center) and SİNERG (Center for Innovation and Simulation in Health).
Dr. Dursun’s scientific work has garnered significant attention in the academic world, with his special areas of interest including endoscopic surgery (sinuses and ears), head and neck cancers, and medical education and simulation applications. With 177 published articles and over 900 Scopus citations to date, the professor has supervised numerous medical residency theses and served on the editorial boards of many prestigious scientific journals. He has also authored and edited important reference books such as the “Allergic Rhinitis Diagnosis and Treatment Guide 2022.”
Engin Dursun also plays a leading role in professional civil society organizations; he is the President of the Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery Association (Ankara) and a member of the Board of Directors of the Turkish Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery Association. He continues to contribute to the education of young surgeons by serving as the chair of the “Schools” within the association. With this multifaceted career in the medical field, Engin Dursun continues his work both as a surgeon and as an educational architect.
